World Hunger week 2: God is at work!

On Sunday, October 27, 2013 Christ Community Church continued in a World Hunger Campaign using material provided by World Renew. Pastor Chelsey was joined by Ron and Lauris Fuller, members of our community that regularly volunteer with World Renew. Together, they shared parallel stories of God at work from Scripture and the modern world, specifically looking at Acts 6.1-7, 2 Kings 4.1-7, Isaiah 41.17-20, and the story of Joseph in Genesis. You can hear their conversation “World Hunger Campaign Part 2” on our website (or search for it in the archives).

World Renew provides a number of stories of how God is at work through their organization on their website. To get you started, check out “Making Dreams a Reality: Village Savings and Lending in Malawi.”

After the service, our community ate a ration meal together. While we ate a simple bowl of rice and beans, we answered together a number of questions about the experience. To be guided through something similar, check out the following guide.

Do you think that you understand hunger? Canadian Foodgrains Bank explains the difference between acute hunger (what we normally think of) and malnutrition as hunger in “What is hunger?”

Next week we’ll be sharing a number of resources of ways to show and give love.

This post is a continuation in a series that relates to Sunday morning worship services at Christ Community Church in Nanaimo, BC. It share ideas and stories about world hunger.
